It is a nice refresher for any Christian who might be facing difficult times or just wants a gentle reminder that God is still on His throne. It is also good for young Christians who are just learning that God is in control: even the winds and the waves obey Him. If He cares for the smallest of creatures, He will surely care for us. I suggest you get this book. Enjoy it for yourself, or give to someone who might be in need of a blessing.

I had tried to ferment a sourdough starter 3 times and failed so I used the saved starter I thought was dead (it was sour), added fresh active sourkraut juice for the liquid, then followed the directions. I made two beautiful 8 1/2 X 4 1/2 loaves of delicious 100% rye bread. I'm so happy I can have real grain bread again -- I had wonderful toast for breakfast today. Note: If you make this bread, tent the loaves the first 15 minutes because they will brown very quickly. I didn't need colored pictures -- I photographed my own. Thank you Shannon.7/15/2015 -- Since my first review I have tried several of the other recipes and tweaked some by adding my own goodies with equal success. I'm so happy to have found this book!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Meh, skip it By Lisa H. I purchased this book after receiving a rye sourdough starter at a whole-grain baking class I took. I was intrigued by the variety of the recipes, but the results of the recipes I've tried thus far have been mixed. The no-knead loaf was pretty good, but the recipe I have from my class has more character. The pancakes were nice the first day, but leftovers didn't fair as well. The boule was just way too heavy. I threw that one away. The last recipe I tried was the brownies and they are quite soaked in butter. While I do like rye, its properties don't always work successfully in some recipes. Getting the book was a worthwhile experiment, but I think I'll stick to recipe sources with which I have enjoyed more success.

All these appetizers take less time to prepare comparative to other appetizers cookbook. I am giving this book a five star review because of the following properties the book really had. Most of appetizers I tried until now are easy to prepare and less time consuming then other cookbook had What I enjoyed about this book was the layout, index and ease of reading. This is the best appetizers cookbook book around! This book exceeds my expectations and answered all my questions. I really enjoyed reading this. I recommend getting a hold of this book; it's straight to the point, informative, minus any 'fluff'. It gets 5 stars from me. Brook-Stephenson My mother first acquired this cookbook many, MANY years ago when I was a child and we were an American military family living in Japan. Some of the delicious dishes from this cookbook that I grew up on were:>Beef with Peppers>Sweet-Sour Beef Balls with Pineapple and Peppers>Beef with Onions>Beef with Cauliflower and Snow Peas>Chicken and Tomatoes>Pineapple Chicken>Peppered Chicken>Chicken with Tomatoes>Chinese Fried RiceEverything Mom made from this cookbook was always totally delicious! Then my family moved several times and the cookbook was lost and remained so for at least 30 years.Last month I was shopping for used cookbooks and was delighted beyond compare when I came upon this cookbook once more. It, along with many others I bought that day, had belonged to a military family who'd traveled extensively.Obviously I promptly bought it and sat up that evening having a walk down Memory Lane while reviewing the contents of the cookbook.When entertaining, my Mother's favorite standby and religiously applauded dishes were:>Walnut Chicken (with Fried Rice)>Duette DewThese two recipes ALWAYS got rave reviews from our guests. Most poeple, it seemed, were surprised to find walnuts in their dinner but they added a very special uniqueness to the meal.For dessert Mom made Duette Dew, which was a cake made with lots of dates and nuts. After it cooled, one would crumble the entire cake into a serving bowl or individual dishes, then top it with dollops of whipped cream. It was most unusual and so yummy!Years later I was an Army wife stationed in Korea. My husband was a commander and we did a tremdous amount of entertaining. I recalled the Walnut Chicken and Duette Dew and wished I had those particular recipes to use myself.Four of our six children were adopted from Korea and I obviously cooked lots of Asian dishes, but always felt that my recipe collection just wasn't complete without the old family favorites.Now I not only have the cookbook, The Art of Chinese Cooking, but seeing how inexpensively I can get used copies (less than $1)...I plan on buying one for each of my relatives this coming Christmas.In summing up, I have just one thing to say: Consider yourself lucky if you have this cookbook amongst your collection. It has authentic recipes which are easy for Westerners to make. Wonderful food and fantastic authors. I spent time studying with them in tokyo many years ago.

Parrish In 1957, my mother took a class Chinese cooking whlie my Dad was stationed in Tokyo Japan, on a tour that allowed the family to join him. Mom wore her text book for the class to tatters, over the next 30 years. What a delight to find a pristine copy of the book in the used book market as a surprise Christmas gift. What an even greater delight to find the book back in print, so that I can gift each of my sisters and brother with one this Christmas. The recipes are adapted to products and vegetables available in this country. The sweet and sour pork recipe also includes the best recipe I've ever found, for making the wonderful sauce from scratch. And if you've ever wondered how to make egg roll wrappers from scratch - you'll find it in this book.

About the Author Paul W. Meier received a Masters of Divinity degree from Vanderbilt Divinity School and a Masters of Sacred Theology degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary. As a second career pastor, he served eleven years in parish ministry before retiring to write and speak. He's a member of the board of directors for Trinity/HOPE, an organization that feeds children in Haiti (www.trinityhope.org) and also serves as the chairperson in his synod for the ELCA Malaria Campaign as it joins with others to eradicate malaria from third world countries.

They all take place in a cabin in the mountains of Wyoming. The time period ranged from late nineteen century all the way to present day. What I liked about this book was that all the novellas were well-written. Although each story was short, I didn't feel rushed or left with unanswered questions. Aside from the cabin, the other common themes were a small Bible and a framed embroidery that became the inspiration for the troubled dwellers. The stories were heartwarming, and the romances were sweet. I read this within a day, because it was so good! I highly recommend this book!

By Brenda C Irvin Every story has to do with the wonderful little cabin where several people found themselves, not by accident, but in the plan of God. Here they found peace in a scripture embroidered in a covering on the mantle; a place of refuge from physical storms and the storms of life. God made a difference in each of their lives. I loved each story.
