As a father of a 13 year old I have always struggled with how to help my son deal with this broken world in which we live. I knew I had been given an amazing opportunity by God to be a father but I was scared to death that I would not be enough. After reading the Man Maker project I have a much better understanding of what to do, how to do it, that no one else can do it but me, and that this is what God made me to do. I am still scared but I have never been more motivated. I finished the book last night and God spoke to me. Here is what happened. We knelt down for our evening prayers and I was looking through my bible for a verse to discuss. My bible has verses tied to virtues, I went through about half a dozen before I finally settled on the virtue of courage and 1 Corinthians 16:13. We discussed it as a family and my 13 year old was more active in the discussion than normal, it was great, but that is not the amazing part. As I settled down to finish the book I came to page 201 and what verse is there before my eyes, "1 Corinthians 16:13-14, "Be Watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all you do be done in love." I broke down right then and there and thanked our Lord for the blessing of this book and I asked for his courage to get my sons "man year" together. Thanks Chris and Thank you Lord!

I highly recommend this for all fathers of boys looking to become men. I have read a few other books on this same topic, and find this one much more in tune with scriptures and our culture today. I believe Chris Bruno says it best in his introduction: "Many authors in the modern-day men's movement represent manhood too narrowly. Not all boys love climbing mountains or hunting elk, and not all boys connect with knights and kings. Instead of an archetype of manhood, I focus on six primary qualities of manhood (courage, integrity, excellent action, kingdom focus, protective leadership, and purity), asking fathers to consider how these characteristics apply to them and their sons uniquely in their settings and according to their interests, while still providing the mental file folders for God's intent for men."I also appreciate how Chris challenges us as fathers to figure out our own story before we pass this rite of passage on to our sons. It isn't about checking the boxes with our sons, but speaking the blessings of truth and grace in to their lives as it overflows out of our own. What a challenge, but I couldn't imagine a higher calling!

Life changer - you and your son's By Justin I have about 11 years until I walk my son through this part of his life, but I am so thankful to have this book now. It provides an incredible perspective of genuine masculinity that can and will change your family and the world. Bruno lays out the foundation for what masculinity really is about, (courage, excellence in action, Kingdom focus, purity, protective leadership, and integrity) and deconstructs the horrible misconceptions that plague our media and most of America. The courage of Bruno to even undertake this project with his son (and then write about it) is incredible. The intentionality, wisdom, and strength of Bruno's approach is evident in every page and resonates with a deep longing in my heart - to both be fathered and to father well.Bruno does not give a cheap, easy, cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, he dives deeply and honestly into the fundamental traits the masculine heart was designed to bring to his world and also how to usher young men into the space of restorative, responsible masculinity. While he gives incredible advice, encouragement and numerous tools to help you understand and usher your son into manhood, it is not prescriptive in nature, which makes it usable by any father or father figure.I would recommend this book to every man on the planet, parent or not. I think it would be an awesome book for any mother (or woman) to read as well because it will give them a tremendous perspective on the male heart and what it needs and should be about. I hope he has a similar book coming for my daughter. My family will forever be changed by this material; both because of who my son will become and who I am becoming as a result of wrestling with the material.
