By Ruby Slippers Sometimes to understand our fears is the hardest hing we can do, it is easier for others to see our fears and help us through them.Joshua was so tender and caring with Gale, he could have yelled at her, tried to physically force her to face her fears. However being a understanding person and coming to love her he went above and beyond to help her face her fears.Gale on the other hand did the best she could to fight her fears and the best thing she did was to trust Josh to help her. This led to the deepest love and security they each longed for.Another lesson well taught Katie.Starr

She was living on the streets and went into an abandoned warehouse for shelter and came across a paper with an ad for a mail order bride. She answered an ad from a miner in San Francisco and has a long time traveling to get there. She is afraid of the dark and closed in places and he wants her to live in a mine shaft. You will need to read the way this man goes out of his way to accommodate his wife.

Gold mining By Tassy A short but nice story about a mail order bride over coming many difficulties and meeting a very understanding man to fall in love with. Gale is a homeless orphan living on the streets of New York City when she spots. An ad for mail order brides. Gale meets danger and she has to overcome her real fears of dark places. All ends well and the story has a very nice ending.

A great book for readers on all points of the political spectrum By The Book Wheel I was invited to read this by Center Street and Newt Gingrich called this review "very impressive," "well-thought-out," and "honest." It was originally posted at The Book Wheel.Did you know that Newt Gingrich writes novels? I did not but it since I was first invited to read this book for Center Street, a Hachette Book Group imprint, I have learned that he has, in fact, written several. As in more than 10. Clearly, I have been living under a rock and, contrary to my previous opinion, I was not being invited to read the product of his first foray into novel writing. In hindsight, this is a good thing because over the years he has been able to hone his craft and write a book that’s worth reading and Duplicity is one such novel. He co-wrote this book with former Washington Post reporter and Pulitzer Prize finalist, Pete Earley, who is a dedicated mental health advocate and has (from what I could Google) written very balanced articles. It is his experience that, I’m sure, helped to keep the scales more even.I must admit that I’m not a Newt fan when it comes to politics, so I was hesitant about the subject matter of his latest book. It’s described as the story of a Benghazi-style attack on a U.S. embassy that was opened by the president for political reasons. Because I’ve followed along with the Benghazi hearings, this immediately put me on high alert and I went in mentally prepared for a book that leaned heavily on overt political rhetoric and liberal-bashing storytelling. Naturally, when I started reading, I was able to point out precisely these things.But it wasn’t long before a funny thing happened – I became engrossed in the story. Not only that, but I found myself flipping the pages so quickly that I forgot to look for political rhetoric and started enjoying it. Then, about halfway through the book, I pulled myself out of the story and realized that the book is pretty balanced and that this isn’t a book about personal politics at all – it’s just a book! In fact, Muslims, marines, politicians, and the media are all portrayed in both positive and negative lights, meaning personal politics were not at all the distraction I had anticipated.In short, I was wrong (insert foot in mouth here). My own preconceptions had me expecting one thing and it turns out my expectations were completely off the mark. Although politics are certainly a part of the story (it is, after all, a book about a U.S. embassy) it is definitely not the main focus. Instead, Duplicity is about the individual men and women who took part in opening the embassy and the personal histories that put them in the line of duty in the first place. They include a CIA operative who is convinced attacks by different terrorists groups are actually being coordinated by one person, a woman marine Captain who wants to step out of the shadow of her family tree and fight for her country, and a president whose one decision cascades outwards. The three lives become entwined when the embassy is attacked and each of them will be permanently and deeply affected by the events they bore witness to and participated in.Duplicity was written for the masses, so in addition to being well-written, it gives the reader everything he/she needs to know about the history of Somalia to understand the story without becoming a history book. It also delves into horrific subject matters, such as beheadings and mutilations, without getting graphic. Rather than relying on the action sequences to propel the story forward, Duplicity takes a character-driven approach and focuses on the thoughts and actions of a few key players. While the subject matter offered the authors the prime opportunity to go for broke on the gore scale, they chose to hold back and focus on the people and it’s a better book for it.Part of me wishes I could go back and read this book again without knowing who the author was because it would have saved me some nervous energy going into it, but the other part of me thinks that I wouldn’t have enjoyed the book so much if I didn’t have my own biases to contend with. It just goes to show you that you can’t always judge a book by its cover or its author (I’m looking at you, Franzen-haters) because you might miss out on a book you would have ended up liking.So who should read this book? Fans of political thrillers with a foreign policy twist.

Loyal and patriotic, the twenty-four-year-old woman wants her protective uncle to be proud of her.When Brooke diffuses a suicide bomber in London, she receives the notoriety that offers her a position protecting the U.S. embassy in Somalia that President Allworth prompted to open quickly to increase her polling numbers before Election Day.Forty-six-year-old Gunter Conner may be the CIA station chief at the Mogadishu embassy, but he has another agenda. He wants to find the head of the radical Islamic group that murdered most of his family.Being used as players and pawns in a potential cover-up, Brooke and Conner choose separate paths to protect America while back home, politics play pivotal roles in the two’s survival after eighteen hostages are taken.~ Why ~Knowing Gingrich served in the thick of politics in Washington, I was intrigued by him writing fiction. With an abrupt ending, the book left me with unanswered questions to be unveiled hopefully in the sequel.~ Who ~Author Gingrich was Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and candidate for president in 2012. He has written several books with three being best sellers. Reporter and author Earley was a 2007 Pulitzer Prize finalist and has written extensively about the Unites States’ government.~ Wish ~Since the book was written by someone who has ample experience of the backroom decisions of Washington politics, it did contain some interactions of the jockeying done between parties. I wish it provided more of the inner-workings of our government’s decisions regarding international topics.~ Want ~If you like political intrigue with protagonists who wish to do what is best protecting others from radical terrorists, this is a fast read regarding politics, controlling religions, and human behaviors.Rating: 4.5 of 5 starsThanks to Bookpleasures and Hachette Book Group for offering this book to review for my honest opinion.

By lq I loved this book - it is a tightly crafted political thriller that grabbed my attention from the first page and kept it until the very last page. In it, a sitting president, shortly before a re-election, makes a political play that plays havoc with peoples' lives and creates an international incident that is all too plausibly real and harkens back to actual past events.This is the first book I've read by the authors, but it won't be the last. I've added them to my must read authors' list. If you are a fan of the genre, you will love this book.

I eat leafy greens by the baleful, but Kale…not so much. I just find it hard to work with, and a bit bitter. But I know it’s good for me, so I persist. That’s why I was so happy to come across this book. It explains how to prepare and store kale, and has tons of delicious recipes from soups to main dishes to smoothies. Trust me, I’ll be trying these recipes one after another, now that I have the secrets to making them taste good!

I enjoyed reading this cookbook on kale. I've been using kales in salad and that's about. Everyone know it's important to eat helthy green vegetables and kale is a superfood. The author does a great job explaining why kale is such a great addition to your diet and how this superfood can make you healthier. The recipes are well written and the instructions are concise and easy to follow. There are soups, salad, side dish, chip, main dish and smoothie recipes using kale as a star ingredient. I made the quinoa, kale sun dry tomato main dish and even the kids were impressed.

About the Author Ron Baratono is the author of the personal nonfictional short story “Family Reflections” and of poems such as “My Life,” “Dear Jesus,” “The Storm,” “Dark Clouds,” “God’s Strength,” and “My Sadness.” In addition, he has quotes that are read worldwide. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and is the second of four children. From 1984 to 1985, Ron directed The Blarney Stone Show broadcast on Wayne Cable Television. From 1985 to 1990, Ron often performed community and dinner theater in Michigan. Ron was hired into the Auto Co. in 1977 at the age of eighteen, where he worked for thirty years. During that time, he still followed his passion for writing and acting. Ron studied at Northwood University and received his bachelor of business administration in 1995 while working full time. Ron is a dad, which he considers the most rewarding job there is. He is the proud father of two wonderful adult young men, who are the highlights of his life. Ron retired from the Auto Co. in 2007 at the age of forty-eight. Today, he continues to follow his passion for writing and acting, appearing in numerous films, including Disney’s Oz the Great and Powerful.

About the Author Rashed Hasan has a deep faith in God and shares a deep concern about the welfare of the human race. He was born in a third-world Muslim country but was fortunate to have been educated in some of the finest institutions in the Western world. As he traveled throughout Muslim lands, he saw poverty, lack of education, rise in conservative thinking, and a lack of empowerment and self-governance on large scales. Yet, he was fascinated by the humility and God consciousness of the average person. As he traveled around the Western world, he witnessed vigorous intellectual discourses, unprecedented economic well-being, and awesome technological innovations but was dismayed by the absence of humility, lack of respect for human equality, and rise of income disparities to an alarming proportion. Rashed has a long career in industry, management consulting and technology entrepreneurship. He worked for premier management consulting firms such as Booz Allen & Hamilton and Ernst & Young. He had worked for and consulted major global corporations in automotive, healthcare, energy, media, pharmaceutical, transportation, building materials, etc. which included companies like Ford Motor, Alyeska Pipeline, Pfizer, Lucas Aerospace, CNN, Monsanto, Westinghouse, GAF, etc.. He had co-founded several technology companies in healthcare informatics and big data analytics. He has also established social ventures in Bangladesh in software and healthcare. Along the way he has also founded and led a number of faith based, grass root political, youth leadership and immigrant advocacy organizations in USA. After reading just a few pages, I realized that the author has devoted a lot of effort in translating the verses and used the most appropriate words in the English vocabulary. This makes this book very easy to read and understand.The format of the book is very simple; the book provides translation of Quran in small groups of verses. It starts from chapter one verse one of the Quran and translates up to chapter two verse 286. For each small set of verses the author provides footnotes that describe the background, terms or events related to the verse. Each group of translated verses also provides a "Reflection" and "Action" section that provide author's comments on how the group of verses applies to our lives and what actions we can take in our daily affairs to act on the verses. Lastly, the book also provides a description of key concepts discussed in the 1st and the 2nd chapters of Quran, a glossary of key Arabic terms and 99 names of God which represent his attributes.The best part about this book is the author's message, which some of us may not get by reading many other similar books. His message is simple, we are all created by God, regardless of the religion we practice i.e. Islam, Christianity, Judaism etc. the most important thing we can do is to treat others with respects, perform good deeds and give to charity. This along with worshiping one God - the God of Ibrahim will make us good human-beings and we will not have anything to worry about on the Day of Judgment. He conveys this message with simple but powerful common sense arguments and examples throughout the book. The main idea behind the book is to read the Quran yourself and it is intended for all mankind and not just for Muslims. One does not need a cleric, priest or holy person to understand their own religion (hence the book's title: Removing the Middleman) to worship God or to understand His message.As this is the first book of a series of books that the author intents to write to translate and explain the Quran, I look forward to the forthcoming books.

By Sincerria Elliott As a Christian person of Faith, I try to learn and understand other cultures, religions and beliefs. Reading and understanding the Qu'ran has been challenging. "Removing the Middle Man" was exactly the help I needed. It is written in language that makes it easier to understand Islam and the Muslim faith. It is obvious that Mr. Rashed Hasan is a man of exceedingly Spiritual Faith and knowledge and has studied the Qu'ran in depth. I am grateful to, and applaud him for writing "Removing the Middle Man", and I'm waiting for Volume II.

Power John PowerThis is a contemporary English translation of the Qur'an. It has been thoughtfully and painstakingly translated. Following each set of verses is a thoughtful reflection and action statement designed to give further insight into the verses and help put them in to a positive way of living. To do this has required great fluency in multiple languages to avoid missteps in translation. I have three other English translations of the Qur'an but find this one the most readable, and as a result, most meaningful. I look forward to further enlightenment as Mr. Hasan translates more chapters in the future. Once completed, this will be the contemporary English translation against which others will be measured.

By Zombie slayer girl This book touched me and made me cry several times at different points, even though I consider myself tough. lol The author showed the power of prayer and that miracles do happen. And proved that even when all hope is lost and you think there is nothing you can do and God doesn't hear you, that just in the nick of time or in Gods time your prayers can be answered. Even if the answer is sometimes no or not right now. He can and will heal and or help us in our time of need. Her knack to draw the reader is superb and keeps the readers interest until the end. It is a nice compilation of true happenings and funny moments in the life of the author and her family, you can feel the author's passion for God and willingness to be a witness and example for Him. The scripture references are a nice addition to each story told.There were moments I was moved to tears, and moments I rejoiced with the family as they faced the struggles and triumphs of every day life. Great Start to a Promising Trilogy By Darth Dragonetti "Predator: Incursion," by Tim Lebbon is the first book in the Rage War trilogy, a trilogy dealing with both alien and predator universes. Not very many multi-volume Alien vs. Predator novels have been done, so I was excited to see what direction this story would take, and am looking forward to the two future volumes in the series.The story of "Incursion" takes place in the "future" from other Alien/Predator stories. It is obvious that human technology has become more complex, and humans have extended their reach into the galaxy further than ever before. Cognizant of the threat from both the Yautja (Predators) and the Xenomrphs (Aliens), the humans have nevertheless reached a point where they are not actively engaged in a large-scale war with either species, although some violent incidents do occur, especially given the violent nature of both alien species. However, the humans are quickly alarmed when large numbers of Yautja swarm into human space. The story is a bit slow to get off the ground, but the slow build-up actually serves to make the action more effective and jarring when we finally get to experience it. There are a number of unpredictable twists in the plot and nothing is as it seems. The Company and other groups, such as the enigmatic Founders, are enshrouded in mystery, leaving the reader eager to discover their ultimate goals.The story is told from the perspective of several different individuals of varying circumstance, occupation, and personality. It quickly becomes apparent that all of the main characters in the story are given distinct, and often complex, personalities. Even the "mind" of a prominent android character is delved into, and the character ends up becoming one of the most interesting of the novel. Also, attempts to dive into the Yautja society, culture, and personality are interesting, giving the species a certain complexity, rather than just "generic alien invaders." However, it is important to note that the story never loses its human element, and is ultimately driven by its human protagonists (and antagonists).The author's writing style is effective at conveying the action, and is particularly good when dealing with the psychology of characters. A few times, though, I found myself wanting more detailed physical descriptions of some of the equipment and technology presented in the story. For instance, the author is vague on what the Colonial Marine combat suits look like, or what some of the space ships are like in appearance. Perhaps he just wants the reader to come up with his own idea...Overall, "Predator: Incursion" is a must-read for fans of the genre and also for anyone who enjoys science fiction in general. The novel succeeds not just as a piece of tie-in fiction, but as a piece of science fiction; it contains a level of creativity not often seen in tie-in fiction. Not to be overlooked, "Incursion" will leave readers ready for the next two volumes in the trilogy, and here's to hoping they're just as solid.In Summation:The Good:-an original and creative story set in a familiar universe-exciting action scenes-suspenseful storyline-strong characterization-interesting technologyThe Bad:-some vague description

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. AvP Done Right By Ryley J. Lyons Tim Lebbon does a great job of making a larger than life conflict work on a human level. And that's the best part: that the story is about the people, not the monsters. Obviously, the Xenos and Yautja are a major part of the plot, but the humans are the driving force. The book is definitely building towards something HUGE, and I can't wait to see how it all plays out in Alien: Invasion and Alien vs. Predator: Armegeddon.

Seriously........I am anixous to read the continuing story in this Predator/Alien Universe. This story, the character's along with their history moves at a steady action and thought provoking pace. This book, for sci-fi action lover's, is a gift from the sci-fi God's and Tim Lebbon.

Lots of the recipes have items I would not normally use, but might pick up at some point to try the recipe. Basically I've found a couple of recipes I use a lot and then experiment with the rest. I've thrown a couple out, even out of this book, I just didn't like them. Maybe you will, try it, it's fun.

And I was totally disappointed.Well, I was disappointed by the ending. Random and Cledwyn didn't get an ending. The story just stopped. Abruptly. In the middle of a thought. And I was pissed. Not a cliffhanger, those I can understand. It just stopped. What. The. Heck. And just when it was getting good!The positives are I liked the interaction between the 2 main characters. It would have been nice for them to get an actual HEA like the other 2 couples. And it was good to check in on Madge and Kia. Their story is my fav so far.I'll get the next book. I'm looking forward to it still. But I was really let down by this one.

This one, like the last story, has characters going against their "type" and getting some hot sex and possible long-term attachment out of it. Unlike the first two HEA stories this is a HFN. This is acting as a bridge story--we get some follow up on Madge and Kai from story two (badly needed), a plot brewing for next time, and a hint about two other characters. I think rather than individual stories we're now doing a running story arc. That sort of diminishes the big dramatic buildup and episode in the book because we're still left with questions. What really makes up for it is that the sex is really hot--far better than the second book--scorching first time sex! Despite these series/story changes I enjoyed it quite a bit and look forward to the next one.
