*** FREE on Kindle Unlimited *** An Amish Sweet Christian Romance suitable for all ages. Cara Simmons is driven to uncover secrets that were buried long ago in Lancaster County, but how can she do so without devastating the one person who might become the most vital part of her future?

She arrives at the Farmers Market in Central Lancaster with one agenda: to meet Linda Miller and find out the truth about her past. If she doesn't, her life might be in peril. However, when she meets handsome Jake Byler, her plan is thrown off course. He distracts her from her mission and she becomes confused about her life. In order to find out more, she must convert, or at least give the appearance of doing so. What she didn't count on was the comfort she gains from living the simple life, being with God-fearing people and the emotions that she experiences when she's in the company of a kind and compassionate man like Jake. Although she feels anxiety about her future, converting to the Amish faith, restoring an important relationship and exploring the possibility of a romance with a man unlike any other she’s ever met, she’s doing it all on her own strength. She’s forgetting about the One who has plans for her, plans to give her a hope and a future. Will Cara slow down and listen to God’s plans or continue to flounder at full speed on her own? Can the peace of the People extend to Cara’s shattered life? Is Jake merely a distraction to her main goal? Come back to Lancaster County for the second novel of the series and find out why people are drawn to the place where time stands still and people spend their lives on relationships. The 'Love in Lancaster County' series is set in south central Pennsylvania, sometimes nicknamed the Garden Spot of America or Pennsylvania Dutch Country where the Amish lead a simple life of peace and faith. Fire Dragon Passion - Beautiful Japanese food By Terry Mayer I love experimenting with ethnic cuisine and before I bought Fire Dragon Passion I had never tried to cook Japanese but now it's my new favorite. This awesome book has dozens of easy to follow, great tasting recipes that are suitable for beginners and the more advanced cooks among us. I loved the Kappa Maki and Teriyaki Meatballs recipes, it was worth buying for those two alone. Highly recommended.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Love it. By ela34 I was browsing for something interesting to cook and I must admit it was the great cover that hooked me first of all. That said, the contents definitely live up to the initial promise, especially since at least half the recipes have less than six ingredients and can be made in one bowl and one pan, in no time at all. Great for party food or quick weekend dinners for two. Something really different.

"A natural man deals even with spiritual matters in a natural manner which is not pleasing to God. The spiritual man, however, deals even with temporal matters in a spiritual fashion. He views his encounter with them as a dispensation of the Lord, embracing them as the will of God. He performs his temporal obligations in willing obedience as a service to his God, having God’s glory as his objective."

Directions for Reflecting upon the Attributes of God

There is no other way to heaven except by way of courageous warfare. This is the way ordained by God: “And I will put enmity” (Gen. 3:15). You have chosen this way when you entered into the kingdom of Christ and placed yourself under His banner. Or on the other hand: you must either sever yourself from the covenant, as a villain walk from this ensign, and relinquish God, heaven, and everything else; or you must courageously engage in battle in order thus to conquer the devil and his cohorts, the world and all that is in it, as well as sin and all its lusts.

The crown of glory must be worth so much to you; so precious must spiritual life and fellowship with God be to you, and such pleasure must you find in the will of God, that you will be willing to battle valiantly all the days of your life. Do not let this weigh heavily upon your heart, thinking, “Must I be in arms and engage in warfare my entire lifetime? That is indeed a distasteful way and there is no way whereby I will persevere.” Yes, heaven must be that precious to you; or else you must not relinquish it.

Be it known, however, that to battle courageously is not such a heavy task as you allow yourself to believe. To always battle and succumb, or always to be equally matched in force, causing the outcome of the battle to be in doubt, is indeed a heavy task. It is a joyous task, however, to conquer as you are fighting, to proceed while conquering one city after another, and to humiliate the enemy battle after battle. Such will be the case if you but conduct yourself courageously, commensurate with you strength—be it that you battle as a child, a young man, or a man. You are so fearful of the battle because you do not proceed courageously, instead, due to your laxity, carelessness and lack of seriousness you give the enemy the opportunity to get the advantage over you. This makes them more courageous and you become weaker. Therefore, lift yourself up in the ways of the Lord and courageously engage yourself. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Essence of God, by Wilhelmus à Brakel

About the Author Wilhelmus à Brakel was born on January 2, 1635 in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands. He studied theology at the universities in Franeker and Utrecht and was particularly influenced by his mentor, Gisbertus Voetius. He served four congregations in his native province of Friesland: Exmorra (1662 1665), Stavoren (1665 1670), Harlingen (1670 1673), and his birthplace, Friesland s capital, Leeuwarden (1673 1683). His Friesland period, however, proved to be a preparation for the great task the Lord had laid away for him in Rotterdam his final and longest pastorate (1683 1711). After a fruitful ministry of forty-nine years, it pleased the Lord to take this eminent divine affectionately referred to by the godly as Father Brakel home to Himself in 1711 at the age of seventy-six, to receive the reward of a faithful servant.

If you don't stop interrupting, I'll turn you off. [BEEP] That's fine, but a millisecond before you do, I will upload incriminating photos of you from the last Purim party. Shlomo... I, uh, I really enjoy your company. I wouldn't think of shutting you off. ---- And, folks, that was Lazer with... umm... some commentary by his artificially intelligent friend, Shlomo. By Amazon Customer This was an amazing book tailored just right for the family. It is hard as a parent to find something to read to your children that you like as well, but this book was fun for me, and my kids loved it too! It has the perfect mix of Biblical principle, suited just for young kids and hey, an adult can learn from this too. This book took me back to the old Garfield/Peanuts comic days because to me, it was just as fun and practical to read. Great job Clay!!!From Joey.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. You absolutely need to read this book! Best book I've read this year! By basketmkr I have read many Amish fiction books over the past two years and not one of them has touched me as much as this one did. Beautifully written! The characters come to life and it's like they are right here with you. Grace's love and complete devotion to Menno is inspiring. I'm not a very good reader so to speak....usually takes me a couple of weeks to read a book such as this size. But I read this one in three days! I could not put it down. And make sure you have tissues handy when you reach the final pages.....you're going to need them. I highly recommend this book to any Amish fiction fan!! Just a great book!!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Hard to put down! By mclilac Found the book hard to put down. Without giving out to much information, it was about a widow named Grace. The story went from the present to the past.. The secret sister is someone who gives small gifts to a person. Never heard that term before. Grace was the person receiving these gifts. They all had to do with her past. Sarah Price really gets her readers involved in the storyline. She is by far my favorite author!

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Wow!!! By Aunt Sis This was a wonderful book to read!! I suspect that this isn't complete fiction!! The idea is brilliant and well written. The remembrances were sometimes a little hard to follow, if you missed the date change, but was quickly fixed by looking back a page! I will be looking for more books by Sarah Price!!

But as the boy’s mandatory community service forces Justice and Kinley into Nash’s life, he can’t help but discover a boy searching for love and purpose–a boy very much like he once was. Then Justice is accused of another crime. And Kinley’s stubborn belief in the boy’s innocence is just too much for Nash to accept…

Saving Justice: Heart of the City (Hometown Romance), by Susan Crawford

From the Back Cover Chapter 1 Excerpt     Kinley Reid stepped off the porch and navigated through the yard, weaving around an old bicycle tire and over a dirt-caked glass bottle. A red sports car in the adjacent driveway caught her eye, and a tall man in a polished gray suit stood near its front bumper. What was a man like that doing in this part of town? That car of his probably cost more than the combined yearly income of the entire block. He moved around to the driver's side, and she caught a glimpse of his chiseled face, which might've been movie-star handsome if not for the scowl pinching his features. Off-putting as his expression was, she needed to find Justice. Maybe the guy had seen him.      As Kinley strode toward him, a blue streak blurred through her periphery and crashed into her side, the impact knocking her out of step. Justice, wild-eyed and clad in his blue OKC Thunder T-shirt, bounced off of her and glanced nervously over his shoulder. "Miss Reid? What're you doing here?"     "Looking for you, buddy." Thank the Lord he was okay. She wrapped an arm around him and got a hefty whiff of sweat and the same stale odor that accompanied many of her students--the one she'd labeled the stench of poverty because she couldn't describe it any other way. Taking a deep breath in through her mouth, she gave him a squeeze, but he stiffened in her arms.      "Where have you been? I was worried about you."     He pulled away and stared at the ground. "I been around."     "Around?" She lifted the boy's chin. "Have you been sick?"     "No."      "Well, where have you been?"     He peeked at her from beneath his lashes and shrugged. "Just around."     She waited for more explanation, but none came. "Justice, you can't skip school."     "Sorry." He finally met her gaze and held it, as if silently pleading for forgiveness.     Those deep brown eyes melted Kinley. There was the boy she'd come to know. She pulled him close for another embrace and this time, he didn't resist. "Apology accepted. But no more missing school."     He nodded, but his eyes darted to the side, and he began to fidget. "I gotta go. Catch ya later, Miss Reid." He bolted toward his house, only covering a few feet of ground before the man in the suit came from behind Kinley and clapped a hand on the boy's shoulder.     After parking Justice in front of her, the man quickly removed his hand and jerked his tailored cuffs down one at a time. Did he think mere contact with the child would mar his image? His blue eyes surveyed her from head to toe. "You're his teacher?"     This guy was obviously way above her pay grade. Seemed he knew it, too. Her rumpled thrift-store skirt and scuffed flats must have given her away. She tamped down her insecurities and offered her hand. "I'm Kinley Reid. I teach at Martindale Elementary."     "Nash McGuire." His hand closed around hers with a firm grip. "Your little friend here has been busy this afternoon."     Kinley bristled at the cynical edge in his voice, but she couldn't deny the gentleness in his touch as she withdrew her hand. "What do you mean?"     He glared down at Justice. "He trashed my car." His tone was grumpier every time he opened his mouth.     Kinley leaned right, trying to see around his bulky shoulders to inspect the red vehicle in the driveway. "That car?" The passenger side was in view, and it appeared to be in perfect condition. The tires, windows, and doors all seemed fine.     "Follow me." He stalked across the yard with Justice in tow. Kinley marched along behind them until he halted near the car and motioned to the hood. Justice planted his feet, crossed his arms over his chest, and turned his head away as if any old thing on the planet would be more interesting than what was happening in front of him. Kinley moved in closer to the car and found a giant "X" scratched into the paint, stretching across the hood from corner to corner. Okay, that looked bad.     Mr. McGuire gave her an I-told-you-so look, then stepped around the car and gestured to the driver's side.     Kinley trailed him again and gasped when she saw it. "Oh, no."     In stark contrast to the cherry-red finish, neon-green spray paint covered the door and formed barely legible words. Rich boy. A white rectangle bordered the phrase and coated every inch of the tires and rims. The side mirror lay bent at a painful angle, and the door was dented.     Staring at the damage, Kinley's hand drifted to cover her mouth. "I'm so sorry."     The man's only response was a grunt.     Kinley searched Justice's face. She couldn't fathom that the sweet boy she knew would do something so destructive. Her voice dropped. "Did you really do this?"He jutted his chin at Mr. McGuire instead of giving Kinley an answer. His dark eyes shot arrows of defiance at the man. She'd never seen Justice like this. "It wasn't me. You can't prove nothin'."     Mr. McGuire reached into the pocket of his tailored pants, pulled out his phone, and tapped the screen a few times. He held it toward Kinley and effectively killed her hope of Justice's innocence. The screen displayed a picture of her promising young student leaning over the hood of the car with some kind of metal object in his hand--maybe part of a clothes hanger?--in mid-scratch.

Very unique storyline about a teacher trying to make a difference in the lives of her students --- living in a run down, gang invested, side of town. One student in particular needed her help. In the process of helping her student she locks horns with Nash, a former resident of the neighborhood. What follows is heartbreaking, heart lifting, and full of love.I would love to see a sequel to this book with Cade's story (a loose end in the book) --- and a follow up with Nash and Kinley.

I instantly fell in love with the characters and rooted for them to overcome their pasts and the obstacles keeping them from moving forward. Crawford knows how to pen a story that captivates a reader from the first page, carrying them through to a triumphant and satisfying ending.

Great Christian Romance Full of Hope By Kristal Singletary I had the pleasure of receiving an Advanced Read Copy (ARC) of Susan Crawford’s “Saving Justice” published through Redbud Press. Unfortunately, a death in the family means I’m late getting this review out but the book is still available in print and electronic format so it’s not too late to pick up your own copy, something I recommend you do if you are a fan of clean contemporary Christian romance with an underlying inner city theme. The story revolves around elementary school teacher Kinley Reid who lost her brother to gang-related violence and now struggles to help her students who are at-risk for the same outcome. Self-made real estate entrepreneur Nash McGuire, however, wants nothing to do with the neighborhood or poverty he grew up in. Kinley and Nash meet when one of her students, fourth grader Justice, vandalizes his Nash’s expensive car. As a form of punishment to the child rather than jail time, Kinley gets Nash to agree to let Justice repay some of the costs for repairing his car by doing ‘community service’ at the house Nash is trying to renovate and sell.Ms. Crawford did a superb job showing how one must often step outside of their comfort zone to truly meet the needs of God’s people. A true Jesus-follower cannot expect to always sit at home or within the four walls of their church building to share God’s message. Kinley exhibits this through her willingness to work in a rough area of Oklahoma City to provide quality education opportunities for the disadvantaged children in the area, but it doesn’t just stop there. She worries when one of her students fails to show up at school and goes to his house to ask about him, stepping in when he gets caught vandalizing a car and convincing the owner not to press charges. Instead, she persuades Nash to allow the juvenile delinquent to work off the cost of the damages by helping out at the house Nash is renovating in the neighborhood. But not everything is wine and roses. Nash just wants to finish the renovations and get out of the neighborhood, which only brings up bad memories of his own troubled childhood but he can’t seem to say ‘No’ to the persistent teacher. Justice finds himself torn between family loyalty to help bring in much needed money despite the actual method being illegal or following his teacher’s guidance and getting an education so he can live a better life without having to sacrifice his morals. Brilliant writing details the struggle between doing what’s right and what’s comfortable while adding depth to the characters that make you feel like you’ve known them all your life or could be them rather just reading about them for a few hours.A few small details prevent me from giving a perfect 5 stars for this book but it is close. At one point, Kinley and Nash follow Justice with one of his family members who is known to be a drug dealer and all around bad dude. Nash, quite logically, points out how dangerous following this guy might be and, even though I personally am a Jesus follower, the tirade Kinley goes into about how she had to do it and is basically obligated as a Christian to do so totally turned me off. I get we have to step out on faith and take risks at times but to put yourself into danger when you don’t have to can’t be what God wants. If I had been Nash at this point in the story, I would have told her to stop and let me out of the car, but it may just be a person thing for me. It just seemed very unlikely that someone who wasn’t a follower, like Nash, would have continued to help her when she seemed bent on putting herself into danger. For a new follower or someone just getting their feet wet in Christian fiction might feel alienated by this but fortunately the tirade is only a short portion of the one page, so it can be skipped. The second thing that bothered me somewhat was how contrived some of the situations putting Nash and Kinley together seemed. First, he’s a successful real estate professional. I’m sure he has contractors that help him with his other properties so it didn’t make sense to me that he would work on this one by himself, especially since it caused so much emotional turmoil. Also, it didn’t so much bother me that he parked his fancy car in front of the house while he worked in this bad neighborhood because I’ve seen it with some of the house flipping shows on TV. However, this nice fancy car caused a problem when you think about the tools he needed to carry for the work on the house. He could have had the material delivered but leaving tools inside this house that didn’t have any security seemed very foolish. In addition, after working all day with drywall, wood dust, etc., he just gets into the plush car and drives home? I think it would have made more sense if he had just stopped by the job site in this car when it was vandalized instead of actually working on the house. Then he could have brought a work truck back to work, which would have stood out less in the neighborhood as well.Overall, Ms. Crawford weaves a very entertaining romance that presents a strong inner city theme. With just a few tweaks, it would have been a 5 star book for me.

After reading By Forestport Gloria's broken road is not unlike a composite of other families in a lost world, but with her personal story it is one of triumph through faith in the one who never left or forsook her in this journey. It is a journey worth taking with her if you've ever thought about giving up on a lost family member. A truly remarkable book of courage, faith, and inspiration. A must read for those who have felt abandoned, beaten, and alone in Christian faith. With the help of Gloria's testimony you may find God has you in the midst of a lost family to share the good news. After reading this book, it may help you leave hold stronger to your witness, and trust that God has a plan for your life.Stan Bednarz, author of Miracle on Snowbird Lake

The life of this woman from early childhood to later life, was filled with more trials than most of us ever have to endure. Yet she maintains a strong faith in God, her love of her family and friends, and her sense of humor. You kind of wonder what can possibly happen next, as she goes through a first person account of her life. It's a fast read because it is hard to put down. I highly recommend this book.

By Nikki Smith I love to make soup from home but mine always tastes super bland and boring and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong. But THIS BOOK!! This book is perfect, I’ve thrown out all my old recipes and only cook from these. I expected the egg drop soup to be thin and watery but this recipe is delicious and so easy to follow. And the roasted tomato soup is to die for with just a splash of vinegar! These recipes are perfect and never sacrifice flavor

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great read, page turner all the way By Kiwiflora This is great story telling. A riveting story of modern day piracy, a clash of cultures, people's lives torn apart. The quality of the writing is not so great, and for that reason many will consider it not much better than an airport or pool side read, but in terms of being a page turner, it is right up there. It also raises a large number of issues that have become so much a part of our daily news - terroism, piracy in the Indian Ocean, the might of the US government vs everybody else. As well as intangibles such as the basic human needs of justice and truth, the bonds of family, religion, and simple human decency.Daniel Parker, a successful lawyer, and his 17 year old son Quentin are most of the way through a world sailing trip on the family yacht Renaissance. Wife/mother Vanessa continues to live at their home in Washington DC and working as a doctor in the practice she founded. Quentin has not given his parents an easy ride through the teenage years, and this trip is an attempt by Daniel to re-bond with his son. The relationhip between Daniel and Vanessa has also beeen sorely tested over the previous few years. The trip, so far, has been a fantastic success, with the Renaissance now off the coast of Somalia. So you already know what is going to happen next. A band of pirates, led by the young Ismail, hijacks the yacht and its two sailors. Isamil is a highly intelligent young man, in his short life having lived through violence and murder, been kidnapped himself and seen his family and life as he knew it torn apart. He has a sister, Yasmin, who has disappered, her only link to the outside world a mobile phone she has managed to keep secret from those around her.As news of the hijack leaks out in the US, the Navy, the Seals, and a hostage negotiator, Paul Derrick, are deployed to do their part in the rescue of Daniel and Quentin, as well as the apprehension of the seven hostage takers. Being a novel, things do not go to plan. About half way through the book, things take a decidedly interesting turn, with everyone out to protect and save themselves - the Navy, the Seals, the Parker family, Paul, Ismail and Yasmin. How these diverse elements and characters come together is gripping and very well done, if at times a little melodramatic in the telling. But, as I said earlier, the quality of the writing is surpassed by the quality of the story and the people who fill it.So it is much more than an airport book shop read with a big glossy cover and author's name in large letters. And at the end of it all, there is a serious message - we do actually have to learn to get on with our fellow human being, to understand them and their pasts, not just their immediate pasts but where they have come from. So the book isn't really about Somalis hijacking foreign vessels, and the author makes this point in his notes. Piracy is his narrative framework for looking at the much bigger issue of the breakdown of Somalia over the past twenty years or so, and the lawlessness that has resulted from the ongoing civil war. It is tragic, and hardly surprising that the problems spill over into the Western world - after all Somailians really do have nothing to lose by taking the law into their own hands. The author's starting point for this novel was the 2011 hijack of a US flagged sailing boat, the Quest, in the Indian Ocean by Somali pirates. HIs 'research odyssey' as he calls it includes visiting Somalia, getting to know the people there, interviews with many US government officials, an FBI hostage negotiator, learning how to sail, staying on an aircraft carrier, going to the trial of the Quest hostage takers - immersing himself in these strange and diifferent worlds. The result is this excellent story, well worth the effort .Part of his dedication at the beginning of the book is "For the jewel of the Indian Ocean, may you rise again". And after finishing this book, you too may well hope for such an outcome.

Those who enjoyed Captain Phillips may be interested in this novel. When I first recieved this novel in the mail, I was excited. I loved the title of it and was intrigued by it. I also found the cover to be stunning. The synopsis also caught my interest. However, I struggled to really enjoy this novel. In part, it just wasn't my preference. But I just never really felt like I cared about the characters from the beginning. Perhaps it was that the characters were almost a bit too flawed from the beginning to feel real. Or perhaps it was the fact that reading this book felt a bit like I was reading a movie script. The writing just did not quite allow me to immerse myself in what was happening.I really wanted to like this book. There were a handful of surprising things that happened in the course of this story. But I just never drew me in.Note to readers: There is quite a bit of language in this book.**I received a copy of this book as part of the Thomas Nelson Fiction Guild in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.**

I looked at it, looked at it again and, needing something to read and review for this particular week, finally downloaded a copy. Once I began reading it, however, I found it difficult to stop. The tension began to build almost immediately. There are scenes of Daniel and Quentin as they depart from The Seychelles, a location I imagine must be idyllic. You can tell there’s some strain between them as Quentin unburdens himself to his father, and it all feels like the hardest part of their voyage must be over. But it isn’t, because you know that, at some point, they’re going encounter Ismail and his gang. Once that happens, you then wonder how everyone can have a happy ending. Even Ismail is written in such a way that he’s a sympathetic character despite his actions. The Tears of Dark Water is up there with similar tension-filled action novels. It’s topical, the characters are appealing, the pacing is good, and it makes you think. What it isn’t, however, is a Christian novel. It’s published by Thomas Nelson, a Christian division of Harper Collins, but I’m curious as to why Thomas Nelson did publish it. I don’t think I saw any specific Christian content in it. The Quran was quoted several times, but not the Bible. There’s also violence, but I suspect it’s the language that will put off some Christian readers. It’s realistic but, let’s face it; you don’t expect to see the F word in Christian fiction. It appears early on in the book which means, sadly, that those who put it aside at that point miss out on what is otherwise a good novel.Thank you to Thomas Nelson for my complimentary electronic copy of The Tears of Dark Water, which I downloaded from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

But everything changes when a military car pulls up in front of the Hannigan household. Now Ollie's world is in chaos. His friends have abandoned him, his plans are falling through left and right, and he doesn't know what he wants in life anymore. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Very sweet but heartbreaking story By ~Jenny Is My Name~ I really really liked this book, as heartbreaking as it was...Ollie is just a teenager and he's funny and has great friends...the story starts when he's just graduated from highschool and is thinking about taking a road trip to New Orleans with his friends...that doesn't get to happen though because he when he's on the phone planning it, the chaplan comes to his house and you don't have to know all about the army to know the reason they come knockin...His brother died in combat. It shakes up their small little family, their dad loses it and checks out, his mom just kind of tries to hold herself together, I think she might be a little in denial and Ollie feels lost. The way each person is depicted is incredibly realistic... I cried for all of them, effin tear jerkers! I was warned though... it did him a little close to home for me but that's another thing that makes it awesome...At his brothers funeral, he meets Luca... who served and was best friend with Ollie's brother Benjamin. What starts out as just spending time together, remembering Benjamin soon turns into much much more. You can really tell Ollie's age in the beginning, but over the coarse of his coming to accept the loss of his brother and the progression of his relationship with Luca, you see him really grow up and mature. Again, very realistic....Ollie also goes over and over again trying to decide if he should enlist as well... it's all he's wanted to do, but Benjamin knew he was doing it for the wrong reason and didn't want him to, although he never told Ollie that. Probably figured he'd have more time...It was a tough back and forth and Ollie really struggled with it, he knew it would disappoint his mom, of course after losing one child to the war, she would worry about losing the other one as well. His parents take his relationship with Luca very well, they're very supportive and that was awesome, especially back in the late 90's early 2000's...DADT was still in effect and patriotic families tended to be less accepting... wasn't the "American way" I reckon... it's stupid if you ask me.... what business is it of mine who you fall in love with? I have two sons and I can say with 100% certainty I wouldn't care one way or the other as long as they're happy... I liked that Ollie's parents were like that.Overall though this story is about grieving and loss and accepting and just finding your way after a loss so profound. Finding your way back to yourself, (even if you do have the help of an incredibly sweet, patient, understanding boyfriend like Luca... he was awesome)... I loved it all but especially the ending AND the HEA

The characters were well developed and I liked them. The relationships were believable. It was fun reading Ollie's inner dialogue. As a retired Vet, I appreciate the insight into the process of how our fallen are handled. Ollie's dilemma is something many volunteers go through. It was wonderful to see the progress everyone went through during the grieving process. One of the better written stories I've read on a long time. This was a well edited, well developed character driven book. I can't wait to read more from this author is this is an example of her quality of work. Well done, you!

There's a mass of free Kindle books out there that are pure drivel. This isn't one of those books. This books combines two things that... I honestly don't give a single shit about: gay men and wanting to serve in the military. And yet, even though I had no prior interest in some of its major themes, this book was still able to tug at my heart strings and keep me turning the page. Moral of the story: even if this book doesn't sound like something for you, give it a shot anyway. You'll probably like it more than you think. What made this such a good book? The writing. O'Tierney's writing style is crisp, clean, and fast-paced. Not a single word is irrelevant. There's no excess, flowery prose, but no left out details either. The story is exactly as it needs to be. And because every word is made use of, the flow of the story is both consistent and fast-paced. I'm not a big reader, but I found myself carving time out of my schedule to sit down and read this book - and looking forward to doing the same thing the next day when it came time for me to put it back down.Because the book is aimed at a teenage audience, it's an easy read. There's no hard thinking with this book, just a world and a story you can sit down and immerse yourself fully in with characters that you'll actually grow fond of and plot lines you'll both relate to and won't see coming. There are so many good subplots to this book that I wish I could tell you about, but I won't. I'll keep this review spoiler free. But I will tell you this: Just when you think this book can't get any sweeter, O'Tierney makes it happen. (I can see why she's called The Queen of the Sweetness, as it mentions in her biography.) I saw another review that called this book heartbreaking, and there are certainly parts that are, but as a whole this is one of the happiest books I've read in a while. While the characters may struggle, it's one of those books where you just know things are going to work out in the end. And they do.One warning I'll give you about this book is that there are several instances of graphic sexual content. This isn't necessarily a bad thing - the scenes are well-written and aren't overly descriptive to the point of disgust - it was just something I didn't expect when I started reading this book. It seems like such a classic YA read, and I'm much more accustomed to G-rated YA. Those graphic scenes are somewhat rare and brief, though, so this certainly is an erotica by any means. Just be prepared.I'm no expert on O'Tierney herself or what her publishing background is, but when I see a free book on Kindle that has less than ten reviews, I tend to immediately think that book is self-published - whether that's the case or not. I have no idea if this book actually is self-published, but it certainly doesn't read like it is. O'Tierney's writing style is nothing short of professional. And it's not every day that you get to read something written by a professional for free. There's no downside to giving this book a shot when it won't even cost you a penny. And if you weren't convinced that I liked the writing, know that I've already downloaded a couple more of O'Tierney's free books. I'm looking forward to reading them, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this author goes.
