Tasty and inventive By Mary Coleman I’m always on the lookout for tasty low carb recipes, because although I love starches, I know they’re not kind to my waistline. I found some good ones here. The beef fried “rice” is actually grated cauliflower and quite yummy. Tuna muffins sound weird but are pretty good, ditto for the black bean brownies. Several of the recipes included here are also gluten-free, and nutritional information is listed for each one.

The reason this recipe book is so great is because it's low carb recipes actually taste great! This book also includes everything else you'd expect from a good recipe book - such as the directions being easy to understand, everything well laid out and made less complicated, etc. Overall, I definitely recommend this!

About the Author I was baptized and raised a Catholic. I went to parochial schools. After graduation from high school in l970, I got mixed up with drugs and then a cult. For five years I became a Bible thumper. Then I had a nervous breakdown. Things no longer felt right. Something was missing. After periods of time out from the world in hospital settings, I had started to attend Mass again. Slowly I was recovering from a terrible trauma. I had delusions, rapid mood changes, identity problems, and a lot of confusion and anxiety. I went back to college and graduated with a degree in University Studies. I took classes in the Social Sciences, Philosophy, Religion, English, Communications, and Music.

If you are an American or Canadian lawyer, interestingly, you'll probably know a little bit more about him but not a lot. But more of that later! It is a pleasure therefore, to review Norman S. Poser's new biography of this renowned personality rightly described as eighteenth century Britain's most powerful judge. It is perhaps startling to be reminded that until the publication of this book from McGill-Queens University Press, there apparently has been no full-length life story about Mansfield written in modern times.Such was Mansfield's influence on the development of English common law that, as the publishers point out, `his decisions continue to influence the legal systems of Canada, Britain and the United States of America to an extent unmatched by any judge of the past.'Or, in Poser's words, `his influence on the law of the English speaking world, evidenced by the fact that the United States Supreme Court has cited his decisions over 330 times, has continued into the twenty-first century.'It may come as a surprise to some, but not others, that Lord Mansfield has been referred to by at least one historian as `arguably the most famous and influential Anglo-American judge of the modern era.'`Anglo-American' might not have been a term Mansfield would have applied to himself. With a reputation as a defender of the existing order, Mansfield was a vigorous and outspoken opponent of the American War of Independence, calling the Boston Tea Party `an act of high treason.' His militant opposition to the colonists dictated British policy during the 1770s, says Poser, and `led to armed conflict and the loss of the colonies.'Putting all this in perspective however, Mansfield in most respects was a modernizer. His judicial decisions led to the modernization of British commercial law and the eventual abolition of the slave trade in England -- a stance which would certainly have put him at loggerheads with many of the founding fathers of America, many of whom may have disapproved of the unpleasant aspects of slavery, but who nonetheless owned slaves.An intensely private person, Mansfield nevertheless loved his busy social life and cultivated innumerable contacts in the political sphere as well as religion, business, literature and the arts. Described as `his country's pride' by Alexander Pope, his circle included William Pitt the Elder, Sir Joshua Reynolds, David Hume, and the biographer of Dr. Johnson, James Boswell.In writing this carefully researched and entertaining biography, Poser has also painted a vivid and detailed picture of the turbulence and intellectual ferment which characterized the world of the eighteenth century Enlightenment. This is an important new book, which will doubtless interest historians and the general public, as well as legal practitioners.

Excellent legal and personal biography By Alex F Stop Lord Mansfield was a towering figure in English law and this book does him and his life's work justice. Mansfield as a man was, like all of us, less than perfect, and Poser does not whitewash him. Neither does he anachronistically attempt to judge him by modern ethical or political standards. My only criticism is that Poser sometimes makes too earnest an effort to fill in the gaps, saying things like "we don't know exactly what was said but it might have been...". Definitely highly recommended.

The book definitely merits four stars: it's readable and filled with colorful details about society and politics in 18th century Britain. History buffs will like it.However, most readers will be interested in legal history, and the book doesn't deserve five stars on that front. The book states repeatedly that Mansfield was the greatest legal mind of the century, but his judicial opinions aren't unpacked in enough detail to let readers appreciate his achievement. Even worse, Mansfield's jurisprudence isn't systematically related to broader legal and social trends in England. Instead, we get capsule summaries of many cases tried by Mansfield. These are interesting, but I, for one, wanted more "big picture" insights into the development of legal doctrine.I was also surprised at the author's over-the-top admiration for Mansfield. To me, the judge seemed like a social climbing sycophant and opportunist, who rarely failed to uphold the privileges of government and the wealthy. Eighteenth century England was a glorified plantation run by landed oligarchs and an emerging business class. Mansfield was perched at the top of this power structure. More reflection on the social order he defended would have improved the book. Nevertheless, anyone interested in 18th century Britain should read it.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Lovely recipes By me This book has wonderful recipes and I really like that the author provides alternatives/substitutions for some of the dishes. I bought this so I could make more healthful lunches to take to work, and I've enjoyed each recipe I've tried. The dishes are presented in lovely photographs and the instructions are clear and easy to follow. Some of the recipes include "fancy" ingredients that you likely won't have if you're not a super-foodie, but as I mentioned, she does provide some alternatives. I'm happy with this purchase.

The photos are also appealing, too. I am a huge fan of Jodi Moreno's recipes on her blog, www.whatscookinggoodlooking.com. You cannot even imagine my disappointment when I opened it up By Claudia I couldn't have been more excited to receive this book after being a long time follower and admirer of the author's blog. You cannot even imagine my disappointment when I opened it up, and realized that not only do the majority of recipes contain animal products (which I was always under the impression that Jodi is plant-based/vegan), but also most of them are so basic, they aren't anywhere near the quality of what I am used to from her blog. This was definitely not worthy of a purchase.

I am in some kind of limbo lol..but I am so very MAD..I felt a whole lot in this book and I even changed my mind on the characters a good few times.I get where Bay is coming from..I really do..But sometimes I was getting frustrated with her..so that brings me to Ty..oh no I won't forgive what he did and how he behaved..not for one sec..but at other times I get his frustration. I loved him for most of the book..but towards the end I wanted to physically hurt him.Ryan..I am totally in love and oh God..ok moving on..can't sat much cause I don't want to spoil..I get Bay in Ryan's relationship..their friendship is solid and so great..so I didn't have any doubt she would see through what she had to do..What can I say.. I didn't see a love triangle like this coming but the story was very good and now I can't wait for more..need more..I think I shouted at the kindle.It's raw and very emotional..you could feel every character's emotions like your own..Oh don't forget the tissues!!

Something so truly horrible, that it's easy to understand why she ends up pushing everyone away. Including the love of her life, childhood sweetheart, Taylor. It happens daily but it never gets easy to here news like this. So I alway admire authors who have the guts to publish books with this topic.I know it must be devastating to go thru something like that but I must say I hated her attitude. I love strong kick ass female leads and this MFC lacked in that department. She dropped her Boyfriend and runned away. Why do I hate this attitude because thru out the book they whine and whine that they miss that person, but for whatever reason it was their decision to drop them.I love triangles so I did appreciate that from this book.I think the only this that bother me from this book was the MFC attitude besides that it was a good book.

I just combine some fruit, vegetables, yogurt, nuts, etc. (dilute with a little water) and have a healthy, tasty lunch. I never use recipes, just whatever I have on hand. Experiment!
