Satan has made a new demon, and he’s a doozy, maybe the most powerful ever created. There’s just one problem … this freshly-minted hellion isn’t sure he wants the job.

In the wacky final volume of the Circles in Hell series, Steve Minion attends Beast Barracks, where he learns both the arcane and mundane arts of being a servant of the Devil. Strength, speed and endurance are all part of a demon’s physical makeup, but he must be taught to be sneaky, cruel and ruthless… and of course to ignore personal hygiene. As Steve begins work as a full-fledged bad guy, he must confront the inevitable: demons exist to torment the damned, and Hell’s former handyman-in-chief doesn't seem to have the stomach for the work. Still, there’s no alternative for our hero. Once a demon, always a demon, as the saying goes. Steve’s stuck in his new role, but really, what good to anyone is a reluctant demon? The Reluctant Demon is the fourth volume in the fantasy comedy series, Circles in Hell. It has been compared to other works of “Hell Fiction” including The Screwtape Letters and Good Omens and to the paranormal humor of Tom Holt, Christopher Moore and Douglas Adams. By Karen Eisenbrey Tricked into becoming a demon, Steve Minion is surprised to discover he has real aptitude for it -- except when it comes to torturing humans. He has a strong and unpleasant reaction to that requirement of his new (eternal) career. Although he's living with the seductive Lilith, a succubus who cares from him and whom he has grown to love, he misses his human friends and still loves Flo, for whom he gave up the last of his humanity and free will. Or did he? Mark Cain manages to pull off the ending I was hoping for all along without making it seem like the obvious outcome. A fun and satisfying end to an enjoyable series!

Every one of these books is a gem. Savor them while you can! The character development in the first book will make you want to read the entire series. Excellent writing. The plots are great and the resolutions to the plots are not predictable except that in the truest sense of being a comedy - the protagonist "wins." But it's the journey that makes these books special. Highly recommend them to all

Well written (excluding some occasional spelling mistakes) and overall very entertaining. The characters are so fully thought out it's hard not to love then. An entirely worthwhile read.

Andy Adler has had one hell of a life. Abused by his father and abandoned by every lover he’s ever had. Andy’s brother Eric has been there through it all, keeping him sane, safe, and cared for. After almost dying at the hands of his own father, Andy is shocked when the lovely scent of his mate pushes through the haze of pain. Eric doesn’t trust this wolf trying to take charge of his brother’s care and is ready to do battle once again for his brother. The man, Jackson Burke, prevails and refuses to leave his mate’s side. Andy, once healed, feels as if he’s lost in a dream. His mate is the most attractive and attentive man he’s ever met. Could this be his forever? Could this be the love he always believed existed? Alas, dreams are often shattered and this one is no different. Can Jackson Burke fix what he has broken or are they both destined for only loneliness? Jackson Burke is a good man, but doesn’t often think about the consequences of his actions. He thought that the hardest part of his mating with Andy Adler was dealing with Andy’s over protective twin brother Eric, a large and menacing wolf with only his brother’s care in mind, but that is only the beginning of his trials. The truth comes out and Jackson acts rashly and jeopardizes his mating and the very nearly his life. Can Jackson overcome his own actions and his own prejudices? His future happiness depends on it.

Laughter, humble, fear, and great sadness; these things are what makes a book great. The author did a great job. However, the author messed up a part of the book. When Andy took off running and Jackson was following behind him, they were in wolf form. That would mean no clothes! So when Jackson pulled Andy up from the cliff and he was holding him in his lap, Andy should not have been wearing a shirt and Jackson should not have his clothes on. It was confusing and I had stop reading and go back because I thought I missed a page somewhere. Frustrating to say the least.

Eric has always been there for him. He is very protective of Andy. Eric does not trust Jackson and after hurting Andy, Eric definitely does not trust Jackson. Will Jackson be able to win Eric’s trust? Will Eric ever be able to trust Jackson? Will Eric be the one that stands in-between the two Mates? Will they be able to get around all the obstacles in their way?

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. My favorite so far By JTorleif I think that I liked this couple the best of all of the Pack Rules books. Both Jeremiah and Andy were broken characters and their relationship suffered because of it, but they were able to grow and overcome their trials. I really liked that Andy wasn't willing to instantly forgive Jeremiah just because he decided to change his mind.

‘A Tough Man’: Revised ….Gritty, violent post-apocalyptic humor. The tale will make you smile, but it will be a bittersweet reflection inspired by the character who stars in this brief shining moment of his life. I have included a second story. Please enjoy reading 'Empire State Building'. It is a tale of post-apocalypse hope. ‘A Tough Man: Revised’, is a complete rewrite of a short story I published some years ago. In its first incarnation I went over the top with a strong southern vernacular. If you’ve ever read an unabridged version ‘Uncle Remus’ in its original format you will understand. This newest version of, ‘A Tough Man’, retains the excitement of the original but is better styled for the mainstream reader.

A Tough Man: Revised, by Terry McDonald

Review Reviewer: ted rossmen- TNBW Comments: Dialect...It works for and against writers. For me being southern born and bred as well, it sounded like Sunday 'round the dinner table. Readers not familiar with the southern vernacular and sayings. It can be confusing and difficult to decipher. It is almost code talking for some. My advice, keep the vernacular steady although I would try to keep in mind that some readers will be lost initially so be aware of that. The upside to this is you have a strong story anchored by strong characters and much like the works of other "southin" writers (Twain) comes to mind immediately. "Huckleberry Finn's" dialogue is initially difficult to comprehend but after a chapter or two you don't notice it anymore and yer sailin' through't like it weren't nuthin'. So says me go fer it!

By Deesh Having read Terry McDonald's Hard Roads (and wanting more when the book was finished), I purchased this story to "tide me over" until the next Hard Roads installment in the series. I enjoyed the story and characters, but found the vernacular to be distracting. And just for the record......most of us (southerners) don't really speak like that!Keep the stories coming, Terry!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. You Don't Want it to End By A. Norman I just started reading A HARD ROAD by Terry McDonald but was curious about A TOUGH MAN and picked d it up. Was especially inspired to give this one a go because I truly love the character development style of this author. A post apocalyptic tales go the set up is standard--what ISN'T standard is the character study and human pathos. A TOUGH MAN delivers this up in the form of a tough mudder who takes on some of the infamous John Saint's men (from the aforementioned novel. The protagonist in our short tale decides to go out in a blaze of glory, so to speak. Do not want to give anything away, but suffice it to say when it ended, I was like "Say whuut" lol. A book SHOULD make you feel that way--like "Gimmee some more!" Now that I have read this snippet I do believe I will sit down have my hubby watch the kids and finish HARD ROAD--it will be a more than worthwhile investment of time!

Keep 'em coming, Terry By Dixie I liked this book and the price was VERY good, but Terry, you can't do the dialect (whatever it was) very well at all. For some of the words I had to stop and think. Am now reading "Hard Road" and really like it. Still looking forward to the two sequels to "Disaster".

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Is it possible to be even more amazing than the first book? By Toni In short.......stunning contents more fantastic than his first book!Longer review? My fingers are ready to fly across these keys! I can safely say that the majority of people were beyond happy with the long-awaited first book from master sugar artist, Carlos Lischetti. Devotees were begging him to share his skill, knowledge, and artistic perfection of his sugar creations. In short, his works are amazing. So many people loved his work but could not attend his classes, as he is located in England, though he does travel to teach as well. So next best thing is a book, right? If you peruse the cake decorating websites and magazines and blogs, you cannot help seeing his sugar projects everywhere. Fantasy caricatures of people, places, and things made from modeling paste. But they looked so perfect, so flawless, that you wondered if it was possible to be as good as he is but then.........Carlos, with the help of his equally talented twin brother (who is a crazy-talented artist of photography and illustration in his own right), produced "Animation in Sugar", his first book that introduced us to his instruction on this sugar art.Fast forward to "Animation in Sugar: Part 2" and you are treated to more instruction and inspiration from the master. This book is large and heavy with 256 pages of voluminous teaching and photography, that includes detailed step-by-step photography, in close-up detail, and in full and glorious color; there are no black and white tutorials. The pages have a nice satin sheen to them and you can "feel" the quality and effort placed into this book. Some of the projects in this book were ones that I had hoped were in his first book, but were not, therefore I saved those photos of his creations for inspiration. But this second book had all the projects that I hoped for, so now I don't know which one to start first. The great part of this sugar art is that you can tailor-make this to whatever and whomever you want to characterize, as many details of the projects are basic to any structure. The figures can be as large or small as you wish so the scope of the size won't overwhelm you.The one project that I love, which is the Geisha Girl, is the same one that is on the cover and dust jacket and it is just perfection. I love the deep red of her kimono.Without giving away too much detail, here is some insight into this book: There are 15 projects offered, ranging from adorable animals to caricatured people ranging from playful to sentimental celebrations. The first 25 pages deal with equipment and recipes, then presentation of the modeling paste he uses. Some might note that the names used for between here and Europe can be different but the paste is till the same. The "glue" recipes used to build images is given, along with prepping cakes before, or after, you make the images. My most favorite part is of course, the figurines! But before you can really get into creating them, you have to know the body part basics, and coloring (whether using food paste colors or airbrushing); this is discussed in detail. Another welcomed addition is the logistics of transporting your figurines so that they are well-protected en route to their destination. Then the fun begins: who or what are you going to make? Dogs or piggies? A plumpy Italian chef? Halloween goblin? A sweet wedding couple? These are just a few of the 15 figures Carlos teaches. The last pages are the templates and schematics of the projects that can be enlarged of course. Both the inside and back covers have adorable pencil caricatures that his brother, Elio, drew as the fantasy of each project became reality. As far as who would find this easy enough, it is obviously perfect for someone experienced, but even for a novice, with patience and time, this would be great for building confidence and skill.OK Carlos...........start working on book number 3! Peace!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good instructional By KDL I bought this for my daughter who is a baker. She called to tell me she loved the book. Although she didn't need it for the baking references the figure sculpture was very instructive with excellent sequential pictures. It was interesting to her because her mother (who does not cook) does sculptures in clay and helped her understand the skill needed.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Love carlos Lichetti! By T. I was so excited to get my new book in the mail. I absolutely love Carlos Lichetti's work. He's a master at sugar art and his instructions are easy to follow--I bought his first book and made many of the sugar figurines without too much difficulty. It does take practice and a love for creating beautiful things from sugar. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn how to make beautiful things from sugar, fondant, and cake.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Great story, but in need of editing By CLR This is a lovely story. Unfortunately, the punctuation errors abound to the point where they can be a distraction. Run on sentences, misplaced apostrophes, and even some spelling mistakes mar an otherwise good story. There are a few parts that need a bit more fleshing-out, as well. That being said, the characters and plot are enjoyable.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Like a draft that needs edited, but has potential By Zoe Reader Good story line, but needs a good editor. Many typos, simple writing style, some redundancy, some parts were unbelievable, pronoun misuse (talking about mating female horse & referred to her as him). Too many characters, though developed well, hard to keep up with. Potential to be edited into a great book!

Good western/frontier story By TexasTracking I was delighted to find this Jean Kuhnke story - a good western for me has strong lead characters with challenges, humor and some action. Strong female lead to appreciate - the story is primarily told through her viewpoint although at times point of view gets a little confusing. Plenty of strong faith - people living out their beliefs rather than just saying they are believers. Strong Christian theme so if that bothers you - you might not like the story. Enjoyed the setting and twists of story line. Good read - I stayed up too late last night to finish reading it!

By Michael Strassberg This book takes an exegetical approach to Genesis as a work created by writers who saw far beyond their contemporary culture to create an enduring statement about a singular God, his greatest creation (the human being) and the moral and ethical demands that God places upon us. He compares Genesis to other great creation myths, and shows two primary things; 1) that a the monotheistic belief places God above and beyond all of nature, which is radically different from other contemporaneous polytheistic religions, and 2) that there is an order, logic and morality in the world that people must follow in order to not be estranged from God and ultimately themselves and society. Law, justice, mercy, charity are values expressed in a book which was written at a time when these were radical ideas. The author's mastery of history and religion are forged into an engaging, powerful exposition of the profound meaning of Genesis and it's seminal importance in the history of human thought.

Even better than his book on Exodus By Michael Lewyn Sarna puts Genesis in its historical context, showing details that would have made many stories from Genesis more comprehensible to Bible-era readers. For example, today's readers may be a bit baffled by Abraham's occasional attempts to pass off Sarah as his sister. But Sarna explains that in the ancient Mideast women had the status of a "sister-wife", superior to other wives. Similarly, Sarna clarifies the Tower of Babel story, explaining how the Torah makes fun of paganism. Reading Sarna won't necessarily change your mind about large theological questions; believers will remain believers after reading him, and unbelievers will remain unbelievers. But Sarna gives background that makes the Torah come to life a bit more.

By Dean Chang As a self-professed evangelical Christian who is tired of the anti-science, anti-intellectual rhetoric that typifies the discourse coming from the American religious right these days, this book is a refreshing take on the true significance of the Book of Genesis both as a historical document and as religious text and I urge Christians of all walks to take a read.According to Sarna, Genesis is remarkable because of its radical departure from the Near Eastern myths and motifs of the times, the creation story in particular, which contrasts the absolute power and righteousness of a monotheistic deity with the capriciousness and unpredictability of polytheism, places an emphasis on morality as the key to a meaningful life as opposed to preoccupation with immortality typical of pagan traditions, is deliberately non-political, non-cultic and non-magical, describes mankind as the pinnacle of creation, endowed with free will and having to take responsibility for his own actions, as compared to the creation of man as an afterthought to serve the physical needs of the gods. This is where the meat of Genesis lies, and ironically, American evangelicals have spent the last few decades trying to infuse Genesis with the "magic" that the author(s) of Genesis tried so hard to eliminate. They've done this by propagating a "literal" interpretation fraught with logical and scientific potholes that can only be filled by an almighty genie who despite creating the physical laws of the universe violated all of them in his very first act of creation and then writing it down in just the fashion to confound all but the most faithful.Sarna's analysis reveals the irrational bias many modern American evangelicals have in reading Genesis from the perspective of a 21st century, western educated individual with an obsession toward a certain version of historicity. We expect the ancients to both understand and care just as deeply as we do about every name being included in a genealogy and ensuring that the reader doesn't misunderstand the second law of thermodynamics. This type of hubris not only makes all Christians look foolish, but worst of all diverts attention from the concepts and ideas that leave, in my opinion, an indelible mark of divine inspiration, which is much more shocking and awe-inspiring to me than getting all the animals on earth onto an boat and then getting the kangaroos and kolas thousands of miles to Australia without leaving any fossil record.Sarna's book reinforces for me that God can work through the natural world just as effectively as the supernatural and one should not give greater credence to one or the other. That the book he inspired probably came to us much like the universe shouldn't try anyone's faith, it should only serve to focus us on the real reasons why the Bible has endured throughout the ages and continues to be relevant to us now more than ever.
