By sandra r gordy Marlisa Brown's "The Gluten-Free, Hassle Free Cookbook" has truly been a lifesaver for this busy mother of four. My children all have severe food allergies and cooking for them can be quite a challenge. Until finding this fantastic cookbook, my repertoire of recipes bordered on mundane. With this book full of delicious recipes, Marlisa has put the fun back in our meals without the often labor intensive preparation I contended with prior to purchasing this book. Every recipe I've tried has turned out as perfectly as her gorgeous photographs. Most importantly, my family is excited about dinner again!
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Be Good to Yourself and Others By Amazon Customer Fantastic book. Pictures show you the portion size versus enormous family size in some cookbooks. Good quality photos render the general idea of a variety of dishes without turning it into a family photo album. My favorite is the ricotta cones! This is a warmhearted, caring approach to cooking that will please folks with food sensitivities or fully diagnosed allergies. Each recipe is labeled not just for gluten free, but fish, shellfish and aught else. Very happy with this effort since the offerings allow you to use your creative sense to substitute chicken for fish, beef, etc. Brown continues to remind her readers that they must be kind to themselves in all aspects of their lives, and respecting and caring for their food needs is only part of a "total wellness" approach. She takes family recipes, adapting the ingredients needed, yet keeping the essence of the home-cooked favorite. Book size is kitchen friendly as well, letting you store it easily away in a cupboard, or out in the open for quick inspiration. An important add-on with this book is the commentary on cross-contamination. Brown reminds us that we may NEED clearly labeled toasters or other cooking "apparel" when gluten and other allergens are mixed in the kitchen, and at table service. Too often, we take the lazy way out and dip spreaders, spoons and other utensils in between dishes and platters, rationalizing "it's all going to the same place anyway". As someone with a seafood allergy can attest, the double and triple dipping can send me straight to the allergy medication if not a possible emergency room visit. This is also where being good to oneself (and others) comes in: simply recognizing sensitivities and allergies affect each person with a different severity on different occasions. Last, I will mention that gluten free is also a meal option for those who do not have the sensitivity. It's an alternative to standardized cooking, for anyone choosing to expand their meal horizons.

By Sarah Garcia The Gluten-Free, Hassle-Free Cookbook is a comprehensive yet easy to follow book with a plethora of fool-proof recipes ranging from Sole Saint-Tropez to Cinnamon Sugar Cookies. Along with the tasteful recipes, Marlisa Brown provides very informative allergy and FODMAPs information. Gluten-Free, Hassle-Free Cookbook is well organized into sections like Breakfast and Cooking for A Crowd. Lastly, the pictures in this book are showcased beautifully, very practical and delicious! I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a lifestyle change or just helpful information. Thank you Marlisa!
