In the latest from the bestselling author of One Potion in the Grave, it’s Halloween in Hitching Post, Alabama, and potion shop owner Carly Bell Hartwell has an especially spooky customer to handle… With all the ghosts that haunt her at this time of year, Carly doesn’t exactly rush to celebrate Halloween.  Even a costume ball organized by her boyfriend Dylan's mother, Patricia Davis Jackson, holds little allure.  But to please Dylan, who wants peace between the two women, Carly reluctantly agrees to go.  Gossip around town is that architect Haywood Dodd plans to make a big announcement at the party. But before he can address the crowd, he’s found dead with Patricia standing over him, holding the murder weapon. Anxious to clear Patricia’s name and perhaps broker a truce with her, Carly would love to use her snooping skills to find the real killer. Only she has bigger problems to deal with—ghosts are flocking to her for help, including a very persistent Haywood Dodd…

Good thing Carly and Delia each have a plan for managing the unique "side effects" they experience during the spooky holiday. Unfortunately for Carly, "the best laid schemes o' mice an' men" (and empathetic witches) "often go awry". And so, instead of the peaceful Halloween hibernation she had envisioned Carly finds herself up to her pitchfork in ghosts, lies, secrets, grudges and murder. Author Heather Blake has returned us to Hitching Post with gusto and style in this wonderful new installment of her Magic Potion Mystery series, and I am still loving these characters and this quirky little southern town. Ms. Blake has a beautiful talent for creating people and places that feel warm and genuine. I started reading this series when the first book was released because I was a fan of her earlier series (Nina Quinn and Lucy Valentine mysteries - and I would highly recommend them as well), and I knew her to a gifted writer with the ability to craft a solid mystery while injecting a great deal of humor and humanity into her work. I especially appreciate her ability to "flesh out" her characters, giving them depth and substance. This book did not disappoint in any way with great character development and a couple of mystery elements that I really did not see coming. I would certainly recommend this book (as well as A Potion to Dye For and One Potion in the Grave), and I sincerely hope that there are more Potions in our future. **Note: I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I do not personally know the author or anyone else associated with this material. This review reflects my personal, unbiased opinion.

By Peggy R I will start by saying that I am a fan of Heather Blake and any new release automatically goes on my to be read pile. This series is no exception. Ghost of a Potion is the third book in the Magic Potion Mysteries and Ms. Blake has written a charming addition to the series. By now, the cast of characters are like old friends so it is always nice to stop in for a visit. In the Magic Potion Mysteries, the main character Carly Bell Hartwell, is a white witch and empath, who runs her families potion shop in a small town in Alabama. Although this installment is set during Halloween, this series is welcome entertainment anytime of the year. The author does a wonderful job creating a cast of witty, fun characters that will enchant you from the start. She writes this story will humor and emotion that will make you laugh out loud and become more attached to the characters. Add to that a plot filled with mystery and some mayhem; throw in witches, ghost, and Carly's crazy family and you have the perfect blend for a wonderful story. Ms. Blake never disappoints and I never hesitate to pick up the latest copy of one of her books. Reading a story written by this author is like going home and catching up with old friends. I have to say this was a great visit and I can't wait for the next installment. Do your self a favor, if you haven't tried a book by this author pick up a book in one of her series and you will become a fan. If you are already a fan like me----definitely put this on your to be read pile. You won't be disappointed.I would rate this book 4.5 stars.Disclosure: I was provided a copy of this book by the author for a fair and honest review

In Ghost, we find witch and potion master Carly Bell Hartwell gearing up to hibernate through Halloween to avoid all of the spirits that are awoken and search for someone to help them. Instead of safely ensconcing herself in her house with zero ghosts, Carly ends up smack dab of another murder mystery with no less than FOUR ghosts needing her help. The main mystery of Ghost of a Potion revolves around Carly’s arch nemesis, Patricia Davis Jackson, who happens to also be the mother of her on again-off again boyfriend and resident cop, Dylan Jackson. Patricia is the prime suspect in the murder of Haywood Dodd during the costume ball. Unfortunately, Haywood’s ghost has latches onto Carly to help him solve his murder and, hopefully, save Dylan’s mother from a prison sentence. While trying to help find out who murdered Haywood, Carly also has to assist a few other interesting former residents of Hitching Post, Alabama find the answers to their questions so they can rest in peace.Ms. Blake seamlessly weaves the stories off all the characters together into one uproariously and satisfying tale in Ghost of a Potion. Between the laughs, there are plenty of heart-warming moments and even a surprise or two thrown in. As always, Ms. Blake has written an exceptional book and I look forward to reading many more of her Magic Potion Mystery series.
