There are some unexpected twists and turns. At times it is heart wrenching to watch the main character face the challenges of her life. Yet, there is hope. In addition to an exciting plot, there is a strong example of how people of faith can encourage others without many words, but by their lives. I feel I need to clarify my choice of "some violence" because I really don't like to fill my mind with violence. As the cover suggests, someone gets shot, but it is not graphic or gory. It is not a violent book at all, but when some of the characters are US marshals, some shooting occurs. In some sequels the second book is just the same song and dance as the first book. You won't find that here. This is a completely different story with only a few references that tie it into the first book. Hope you love this book as much as I did!

Once I find an author I like then I want to read everything that author has written. I try to read them in order of when they were written, or in the case of a series I want to read them in series order. I confess, I did not read book 1, but this book can stand alone. It starts out with suspense over a murder and "who done it" and a young woman being chased through the forest with the intent to kill. The two crimes get brought together seamlessly and solved with good police work and the help of some four footed friends. I found myself identifying with the woman victim as she tried to figure out who was her friend and who was her enemy. SQ Eads writes novels I want to read. They are well written and suitable for adults or teens. I think I better order book 1 from this series to read while I wait anxiously for book 3.

SQ Eads is one of the best novelists of our time, in my opinion. I always look forward to her next book, and I have read all of them. Please put her books in your library, to be blessed with once a year. I often forget how they end, so I have to reread them. Her use of words to build characters is truly amazing. By the fourth page of her books, I'm already hooked into the characters and can't put the book down. One thing I've learned is not to start one of her books when I don't have much reading time, for I will forget all other things and keep reading until I've finished. I have had some late nights reading her books, because sleep didn't matter at the time. I never read novels until I began reading her books and I realize how much I've missed by not doing so. She's the best!!!
