I have been a Christian for 60 years.I thoroughly enjoyed this book and have never read one quite like it.Surprisingly to me, I learned things never researched by me....especially about how some of the early teachings came to be.It has always "driven me crazy" that Jesus has always been depicted as a pale, weak, sometimes blond man when clearly he was not, given His heritage.Thank you Mr.Carter for finally putting that in words. In conclusion, in my educated opinion, this book did exactly what was intended.....makes you think and challenges digging deeper.

By Amazon Customer Popping Pop Christianity is a fun and important read for folks interested in religion in America in the 21st Century. Carter has a winsome way of relating the important points of the Christian faith, and popping many of the Christian traditions that have built up over the years. This is a good book to read on your own, but I'd recommend that you read it with someone, so that you can discuss the points that Carter makes, and compare and contrast the pop Christian bubbles that have built up in your own life with a friend. Recommended for believers and seekers, too.

Mr. Carter is one of the most well versed men on the actual history of the Bible, what it means in context, and what it actually says, that I have had the pleasure to read in a while. His book is NOT a dry academic treatise, it has depth and will make you think, but at the same time is light and fun to read. His "pretest" at the beginning of each section will make you realize that, no matter who you are and how well you may THINK you know what is in the Bible, you more than likely do not. Sprinkled throughout with (mostly modern) pop culture references, movies, and songs, he makes connections between the biblical topic being discussed and the modern day without being "preachy" or feeling like you have been to church.Highly Reccomended
