A hilarious exploration of 'the most vicious and bitter form of politics' By JMV An X-Ray Affair proffers up a likely all too real glimpse behind the scenes of an academic medical center, demonstrating that 'Academic politics is the most vicious and bitter form of politics, because the stakes are so low.' Protagonist Niall McFadden is a successful radiologist who despite (or because of?) his delusional sociopathic tendencies ascends to the chair of a prestigious radiology department. Once ensconced in this position of power he rapidly proceeds pillaging everything from the department finances through the female resident staff. 'An X-Ray Affair' builds upon Chris Malone's earlier novel, 'The Wrong Treatment,' with interesting characters and a healthy dose of humor. The plot builds quickly but unfortunately the ending comes too soon. 'An X-Ray Affair' is a great quick read and a titillating peak into a world largely unexplored in modern literature.
