Little does their precinct know they're partners with benefits, almost boyfriends in fact. Both men are gay but deep in the closet. Kevin is said to be shy but comes off as easy going, accepting, and not wanting to make waves. This temperament is a good counterpoint for Rhys's self centered and sometimes childish attitude. Somehow they both even each other out. It isn't until the chief gets an idea to have the two train in the cop / shifter certification program. . .Which opens up a can of worms. Suddenly their friends with benefits changes and they're pushed into an uncertain future. What I loved about this story is the banter between Kevin and Rhys. It's constant and fun. I'd have to say that bubble gum incident was . . . um. . . yeah. But typical. Yes they can clown around but when things get serious, they buckle down. I enjoyed seeing the training program from a new viewpoint - From the eyes of two men who have been partnered for years. Hollis Shiloh came thru with this one. Well written, great characters, wonderful romance and cops who aren't perfect but are doing the job they love. Even when it hurts. I hope we see these two again. Recommended m/m shifter cop story. - Dan's Wife

Really, this is more about two guys dancing around making the leap from friends with benefits to boyfriends than it is about the Shifters and Partners thing. I loved these guys' relationship. They had all the immature bantering along with the sweet cuddling/spooning and hot sex. Their friendship was easy to see but their intimacy was a little murkier. Kevin wants more, a commitment but he's not good at saying what he feels or asking for what he wants. Rhys is a big kid who is a little clueless when it comes to their relationship status. The way they are tested and grow both individually and together make this a great story. The story has a lot of emotion but not much angst--especially compared to some of the other books in the series. I would love to see more of these guys' story--they were just so fun to get to know.

Love story between 2 dull, whiny teenagers By Lora905 This whole book could really be summed up with just a few of the quotes from within:1) “Would I ever grow up? Would Rhys?” The entire time it felt as if I was reading a love story between 2 teenagers with how immature Rhys & Kevin seemed.2) “He was stronger, always had been, always would be.” Kevin restated this – either in these exact words or in a similar fashion – so many times during the story it was obvious that he had an inferiority complex when it came to being with Kevin. He actually said so towards the end.3) “I didn’t say no to sex – enjoyed it too much frankly…” Rhys was manipulative, and Kevin was easy to manipulate. This was demonstrated by the fact that he would keep having sex with Rhys and letting him stay over, but would revert right back to being angry for something Rhys had done recently or in the past.4) “I didn’t know who I’d be without Rhys in my life. Maybe that was a bad thing, to be so shaped by someone…” Kevin never got over past hurts (not even by the end of the book), rarely even talked about them, but wouldn’t dare to part ways with Rhys even though he still didn’t fully trust him or believe him when he said he’d be faithful and monogamous.5) “Well. Yeah. Of course. I love you.” This was Rhys finally telling Kevin that he loved him, while not even looking him in the face (he was watching football), and the book was nearly over. I honestly had no idea – and neither did Kevin! – up until that very moment how he felt. That says a lot, because it really seemed as though Rhys just wanted him for convenient sex, the fact that he could get whatever he wanted out of Kevin, and that he had to have a human partner in order to work. Any emotion I saw or felt was all one-sided on Kevin’s behalf.**Note: This one's a little more crude & graphic when it comes to sex than most of Shiloh's books.
