In this collection of non-fiction narratives Steve Doughty offers an evocative exploration of contemporary spiritual seeking. About the Author Steve Doughty is a minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA). His writings have appeared in a number of anthologies, including The Best Spiritual Writing series. A graduate of the Shalem Institute's Program in Spiritual Guidance, he has served pastorates in New York, the Black Hills, an Appalachian region of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and volunteered with the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship in Colombia, South America. He and his wife Jean live in Greenville, SC.

Doughty does just that, repeatedly, in this book. He does it within many contexts and environments; moreover, he pulls it off with the full human menu--the short, heavy, compact, tall, the exuberant, the quiet, even the good, bad, and the marginaly ugly.Can a gifted singer who never had a chance at Nashville still live abundantly?Where is the numinous in a cancer victim's slow death?What does a pizza parlor controversy in Deadwood and Lead SD have to do with life and death and living generously?How does an umbrella on a stormy day instruct about peace, war, tolerance, and decency?And that's just for starters, the main course continues the complex, but simple human stories, so deeply human in this wise book that we find ourselves tucked away in every one of them.
