In her meditations on the suffering and death of Christ, the writer is unafraid to descend into the darkest places -- and by aligning her own pain with Jesus's suffering on the cross, she offers us a fresh view of the ancient lesson that we can be changed and profoundly healed through his resurrection. The beautiful color paintings that deepen and expand the power of the poems.

Looking at Jesus' Sacrifice, Filling Your Heart with Hope and Joy By Carolyn Warren At a recent Northwest Christian Writer's Conference, I met Deborah Anderson. We talked about the keynote speaker, life, work, and homes. I asked her, "What do you write?" And she told me about this book. I'm so glad she did!This is a beautiful collection of 26 poems and one short essay. The writing is insightful, deep, heart-felt and heart-touching. Her work brings out emotions of wonder, pain, revelation, and joy. She expresses the human need for God and the miracle of finding Jesus as only a poet can. The book is divided into two parts: "What I Took to the Cross," and "Alone with Jesus."One of my favorites is "Hosanna!" It starts with:"Here I am, Lord,Look down,It's me."(How often do we want to say that to the Lord? In the stanzas that follow, Deborah speaks to the Lord words that are buried so deep inside of us all.) Then it ends with this triumphant truth:"In Your dying, You are strongerthan I ever am in my living.Hosanna!"Each poem is accompanied by a watercolor or drawing by William Forrester who studied art in New York and Italy. He wrote, "Although I have been an artist and follower of Christ for 37 years, I have never illustrated images of Christ like this before... This is new territory for me. I went about it soberly but also with great abandon, trying some adventuresome approaches I had long left on the back burner." I am glad he did. I love the hidden images of Jesus in his paintings.I recommend this book for people going through questions, pain, depression, calling out to God, finding Jesus, finding joy, celebrating new life, seeking abundant life, and everyone else who loves poetry, deep writing, and beautiful art. Just one of these poems is worth the price of the book.

I always like that... What a great sharing of Deborah's journey as a Protestant experiencing and connecting with Jesus on the cross.. This Catholic was fascinated and i see the crucifix with a renewed heart.
