Stephanie Hartwell is a journalist chasing the story of her career… When superstar hockey player and notorious bad boy Aleksandr Volynsky is traded to the Seattle Earthquakes in a blockbuster deal, Stephanie demands the opportunity to prove herself by scoring an exclusive interview with a man with no love for the media…the same man she once thought, as a naïve teenager, she’d someday marry. An Olympian and Stanley Cup Champion, Aleksandr has achieved every goal he’s ever set… Now expected to carry a failing team on his shoulders, Aleksandr’s troubles deepen when he encounters Stephanie after a season-opening loss. His lifestyle of drinking and random hookups has been a futile attempt to forget the beautiful tomboy who stole his heart nine years ago. And worse, fame and fortune have made it impossible for him to trust anyone—especially Stephanie, who is engaged to another man. Romance rekindles, but tragedy reveals Aleksandr’s dark side… Being with Aleksandr in the first place jeopardizes Stephanie’s journalistic integrity and threatens her career, and when he spirals out of control, it reawakens fears from her own history, making her unable to commit to a future with him. When Aleksandr discovers the truth behind his self-destructive behavior, will his newfound self-awareness be enough to convince Stephanie to give him one last chance… Or will his revelation drive her away for good?

Review "FIREBIRD made laugh, cry and put a smile on my face when I made it to the end.... I highly recommend FIREBIRD to all romance lovers. FIREBIRD is not an easy or light read but you will not be disappointed!" -The Romance Reviews"This novel was amazing. It was everything that I look for in a good novel; it was fast paced, it was developed, the plot line was good, the twists were unexpected, and the lead was hot....This is definitely a book that I will read again and again." -Readers' Favorite"Jennifer Loring's fantastic writing style yanked big ugly tears out of me as I physically felt the pain of Stephanie and Aleksandr, and I had a hard time breathing on more than one occasion. She took a topic that can be very a big source of controversy and wrote with great awareness and grace.... I don't want to forget to say that the sexy scenes are SMOKIN' HOT, and the love is realistically messy." -The Power of Three Readers"...Firebird was an incredibly good romance. It was fast-paced and action packed. I couldn't put it down." -A Novel Glimpse"It has been a long time since a book made me cry. Considering I read three to four books a week that is saying a lot. Jennifer Loring's Firebird is a believable and heartfelt story that I could not put down." -Diane's Book Blog"This book was amazing!" -Thoughts of an Avid Reader"I loved this book." -Sweet & Spicy Reads"This book blew me away." -Sassy Southern Book Blog"I was captured right away and couldn't put it down.... This is definitely the case in this story.Alex and Stephanie met when they were in High School, he came over from Russia to play hockey and Stephanie was the one to teach him better english. They fell in love and the next thing you know is he has to go back to Russia, thus breaking the relationship.Fast forward eight years and they are put into each others paths once again. Stephanie has been playing on the safe side of life since Alex left. She thinks she only deserves mediocre love and a job she isn't happy with. Alex sets her soul on fire and reminds her we all deserve the very best.Unfortunately Stephanie has someone else in her life who she has to think about before Alex.Alex has been lost since he left Stephanie the first time, and when he finds her again it's game over. He will do anything to get her back in his life. He's a hot headed jock who comes with many issues. Will he be able to keep his woman once trouble comes? Does love truly conquer all?Firebird made me feel on so many different levels. I got with my husband when I was seventeen so I understood the struggle they had when they were young. I loved how Jennifer Loring showed a different side to the sports aspect then what I've seen before. It was a real story. Is it worth going against the grain in order to achieve everything you've ever wanted? Would you be able to walk away from the only person you've ever wanted for the second time if push came to shove? Here are some of my favorite quotes;“I was so angry because I thought you were rejecting me for your fiancé’s sake. But now I get it. You thought that even if we did sleep together, I’d leave. That’s what I do. And I’d do it to hurt you. Am I right?”“Maybe this sounds stupid, but some people think there are souls that keep meeting in different lives, and in every new life, they search for each other because there’s something they need to learn or do. So if you believe in that kind of thing, we’ve been traveling together for lifetimes, and in this lifetime, we have to complete whatever we left unfinished.”“This is what love is. It’s irrational and extraordinary; it’s pain and sorrow, and joy and laughter. It’s us. It’s always been us.”“Though time can change so many things, I know one thing is true— Time will never change the love I feel for you.”Star Ratings:Plot- 3/5Characters- 3/5Heat- 3/5Writing style- 3/5Overall- 3/5**A copy was provided in exchange for a fair and honest review***Reviewed for SBR Blogs*

Hite 4.5 stars!Okay, so I'm going to get the one negative thing I have to say about Firebird out of the way so that I can sing it's praises like I really want to do. There is cheating and a lot of womanizing in this book. (If those two things bother you, this book is not for you.) It was disturbing to read about the two main characters having sex with other people -- especially when they're thinking about each other. Ewww. BUT I know this stuff happens in real life, so it won't make or a break a book for me. Now, on to the fun part!Besides the cheating part, Firebird was an incredibly good romance. It was fast-paced and action packed. I couldn't put it down. Something new was always happening and the story was constantly building. I was surprised at the twists and turns that took place. Just when I thought the story might be coming to an end, something else would happen to take the story in a new direction.I absolutely loved Aleksandr. To be honest, most of the time he was a big fat jerk. But I kind of loved that about him. He didn't hold back and once I knew why, I appreciated it even more. I don't want to give too much away, but I felt that his story was an important one. I loved the way his character developed over the entire book.Stephanie, on the other hand, drove me nuts at times. One minute, she was a smart and tough chick. The next, she made horrible decisions. I liked her, but at times she made it hard to.Together, Stephanie and Aleksandr were scorching HOT. They couldn't keep their hands off each other! There was a sweetness between the two of them that I loved -- especially from Aleksandr. He was so crude, but he had a secret soft spot when it came to Stephanie. It made me smile a lot.As for the hockey, I liked that Jennifer Loring included some actual hockey plays and not just the players. It added another great dimension to the story. I don't know much about hockey, but it seemed realistic enough to me.I would highly recommend Firebird to adult contemporary romance readers that love sports related romances.**I received an electronic copy of Firebird in exchange for an honest review.

The one good thing about this book is that you actually feel everything that the characters are going thru. You feel pain during the breakups and injury, You feel joy during the happy and love moments. The author has a way of bringing you into the story and loving every minute of it or at least I did.Alex, is a proud Russian and is determined to make his family proud with his hockey career. He's had to sacrifice some things along the way including Stefanie. They were best friends/lovers in school but that ended to soon. He has done some remarkable things like winning the Stanley Cup but also has a reputation of being a bad boy. He is traded to a team that desperately needs help. He is hurt and frustrated but still goes out and plays. He has never got over losing Stefanie.Stefanie, is desperately trying to keep her sports journalist job and lands a job of a lifetime. It has it major throwbacks that she has to deal with all over again.. Sparks fly again but there's a problem, Stefanie is engaged to another man.Alex and Stefanie are good together but have their fair share of problems, just like any relationship does but things go from good to bad in a instant for them. Both are dealing with a bunch of issues, Stefanie runs away while Alex turns to booze and women..not the best but during the healing process both realize that they aren't truly happy unless they are together. It's a roller coaster ride for the both of them but it does end happily for them. I really loved this story! It shows the realness of what can happen in relationships. Everyone has issues and its how we rise above them is how we show our what we're truly capable of. Stefanie and Alex definitely hit the highs and lows but rise above them to find their true selves, which is so remarkable. They find their true callings and where exactly they are supposed to be.
